To their credit the Socialist Workers Party and Workers Liberty have fought this slogan and campaign.

SPOT THE WEASEL WORDS . . . .

Have a look at the different contributions here and study the attempt by George Galloway and Jerry Hicks of the Respect Party to give a progressive spin to their support for those attacking the employment of foreign workers in Britain. They stand more or less in the same camp as the Morning Star, Brendan Barber, AMICUS/UNITE, and Socialist Unity in attempting to argue that this dispute is simply about enforcing national agreements, opposing sub-contracting, and protecting foreign workers from exploitation.

The truth, of course, is much nastier - substantial groups of workers are moving spontaneously towards reactionary solutions to their problems by blaming Polish workers, or workers from Italy or Portugal, for “nicking” their jobs. Most of the labour movement is now playing catch-up - running behind the workers - attempting to give a traditional radical spin to what are in truth very traditional popular xenophobic prejudices.
